Quality Assurance Sessions for 2008
Saturday, May 17, 2008 will be the first quality assurance session for the season. The session will be held in the Junior Fair Building on the fair grounds. Quality assurance is mandatory for all junior fair exhibitors of rabbits, poultry, waterfowl, dairy cattle, beef cattle, dairy feeder calves, swine, sheep, and goats. Dog exhibitors no longer have to take a QA. Horse exhibitors who are only taking a horse may take the equine QA with Matt Davis. If an equine exhibitor is taking another animal, they must attend one of the regular QA sessions as well. Any exhibitor failing to attend one quality assurance session will be ineligible to show and/or sell their animal at the 2008 Athens County Fair. The sessions will begin promptly at the times listed below – we will not allow you to enter the session after the start times listed below. No exceptions to this rule.
The dates for the four sessions are as follows:

***Dairy Feeder Calf Show Changes***
The Dairy Feeder Calf Show will move to 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday of the fair. The show will begin with showmanship. This Showmanship will be for dairy feeder calf exhibitors only as they are having their own showmanship show beginning in 2008. Exhibitors of dairy feeders can only show in the dairy feeder showmanship classes, they cannot show in the beef showmanship with the dairy feeder calf. If an exhibitor has another beef animal besides the dairy feeder calf, he/she can also show in beef showmanship. And, as in all the other species, Buckley Bros. will sponsor a $100 savings bond for the winner of the Pro Dairy Feeder Showmanship Class.
We are seeking sponsors for the new dairy feeder showmanship classes so please let us know if you can sponsor a show or know of someone who will.
Drug Use Notification Forms
Drug Use Notification Forms are required for all livestock entering the Athens County Fairgrounds except dogs and rabbits. These forms are mandatory for open class livestock as well as junior fair livestock. The Ohio Department of Agriculture requires us to send in drug use notification forms on all beef cattle, dairy cattle, goats, sheep, swine, horses, dairy beef feeders, and poultry. This year ducks and geese are considered market poultry so they will also be required to fill out the drug use forms. You will need one form per animal except market chickens; they can fill out one form per pen of chickens. Exhibitors attempting to enter without the DUN forms will be turned away, ODA rules apply. More information on when and where this will be distributed will follow at a later date.
Notice to all exhibitors of ruminant animals
The Ohio Department of Agriculture requires all exhibitors of ruminant animals (cattle, sheep, and goats) to sign a form stating that they have not been fed any animal by-products. This form must be turned in at the gate when you arrive with your ruminant animals for check-in on Saturday, August 2, 2008. More information on when and where this will be distributed will follow at a later date.
Market Rabbits
Tag-in for Market Rabbits is Wednesday, July 9, 2008, 6:00 pm-8:00 pm at the fairgrounds. Market Rabbit exhibitors must bring their market rabbits to the fairgrounds to be tattooed by the Sale Committee. If the exhibitor registered one pen they may bring 3-4 rabbits to be tattooed, if they registered two pens they may bring 6-8 rabbits to be tattooed. Please remember that a pen for the fair is only 3 rabbits. - NO EXCEPTIONS
